Hawaii Journal #1

Just had a slight epiphany: I can blog from my phone. This means that I can post updates throughout our trip instead of getting home, being overwhelmed by a million pictures and stories, putting off posting them because of said overwhelmed emotion, becoming more overwhelmed...

Anyway, I'm going to attempt to post a "journal" of sorts every couple of days.

The night before we left, Kaitlyn was way too excited to sleep. She was in bed no later than 7:30 (which is their current bedtime, just for the blog record) and didn't fall asleep until 10. Moving on...

We got up before the sun on the (3:15 for me) to shower and throw in the last minute packing items. We snuck in to get the girls at ten to five, which confused both of them quite a bit. Kaitlyn mumbled something about frogs as Jeff carried her out of the front door. Despite our efforts to transfer during sleep, K woke up enough to realize what was happening and it was over from there. They were SO excited.

In a nutshell, the flight was great, especially considering the lack of sleep. Both girls got a little restless (I think I switched out the DVDs about 35 times because "I want a different movie"), but nothing major. Kaitlyn loved taking off and landing, and when we landed, the plane lurched quite a bit, causing every kid on the plane to squeal like they were on a roller coaster.

Got the rental mini van (we are tempted to trade our pilot in for one of these when we get home--so practical and roomy...mama don't care) and headed to Costco. We ended up going through McDonalds on the way to the condo--food was essential.

We love the condo that Jeff picked. Because of a ravine (well blocked by bushes), we have quite a bit of privacy in our back "yard." We have easy access to the pool and beach by walking through part of one parking lot. The patio has a BBQ, nice table, and trellis, making for a nice morning coffee and evening dinner environment.

It was a little touch and go with a broken air conditioner in the back room, several burned out light bulbs, and a potential broken fridge (traumatizing after a big Costco trip--lots of meat, etc. hanging in the balance). All of that was either fixed or turned out okay.

The first evening, Jeff and I took the girls to the pool. I wimped out due to a cool breeze, and watched them splash around for a bit :)

Bedtime was pretty smooth that first night. K is sleeping on the hid a bed, Austen on the floor on the couch cushions (covered with a sheet-makes a cute little bed, and of course she was thrilled), and Mama and Daddy in the Murphy bed. We slept horribly, but the girls slept okay. We were up at about 5 the first morning.

I'll stop there for now. I doubt this is going to be at all interesting for anyone else, as it is/will be a stream of consciousness about our daily activities on the trip. Here are some pics to spice it up!
